This biography of a slave, Revolutionary War soldier and freeman is an interesting story of how Nero Hawley changed the course of his life. When he joined the army to fight in the Revolution, the war had been going for two years. He lived in Connecticut at the time, but soon after enlisting ended up at Valley Forge. After the war ended, he returned to Connecticut, where he became a successful business man.
